BELOVED COUNTRY FARM STORE

Big Rock Community Farm Market - Stanfordville, NY

Starting off as a small roadside farm stand, Big Rock has been the community staple and a destination spot for weekend visitors for a long, long time.  Mark B., founder and owner of Big Rock, comes from a long line of Stanfordville farmers, and long dreamed of finding a way to connect his small community with the land as well as the weekend visitors that frequent the Hudson Valley.  When Mark acquired the imposing but crumbling Campbell House (circa 1875), he contacted Sloan Architects to help bring his vision to reality.

Sloan Architects’ concept was to create a design that restored the historical beauty of the Campbell House while integrating the functionality necessary to show case the local and organic products that are representative of the Hudson Valley farmers.  The impressive restoration saved what many consider the small town’s crown jewel and created a market that brings together the local community, second homeowners, weekend visitors and farm producers similarly.

With the combination of Mark’s vision and Sloan’s creativity the end result is a gorgeously restored Victorian farm store with bountiful offering that nourish the souls of the community and passerby.
