Firstside Center: Bright Horizons - Pittsburgh, PA
The +/-8,204 square-foot childcare center for PNC bank is designed using an unique arrangement of space. The layout consists of an open floor plan that uses furniture and other architectural design elements to define the classroom space. The use of bright color schemes and playful design patterns add to the friendliness and overall energy of the space, highlighting the mood of the facility.
A major feature of this childcare center is the historical connection that the center’s design holds with the city of Pittsburgh. The major landmarks represented in the structure’s layout include the Smithfield Street Bridge and Fort Pitt. Different colored floor patterns and materials, along with a water play basin, are all used to depict the Monongahela River that the bridge crosses. The bridge itself is represented by large cutaways shaped in the image of the bridge’s cabling, creating playful openings into the space.
