Millbrook Lofts - Millbrook, NY
This 75 year-old traditional brick structure, originally a gymnasium for the Bennett College Millbrook campus, had spent the last twenty years as a research facility and office. Historically inaccurate renovations and additions had detracted from the buildings character, however, it retained much of its original brick structure, making it a perfect candidate for an architectural restoration and adaptive reuse into residential loft style condominiums.
The exterior showcases red brick piers framing the new stucco siding, corner boards, arched eyebrow trim, carriage-house style lighting and transom windows above each entrance door, continuing the theme of modern housing with traditional roots.
At the interior, varied roof pitches along with double-height ceilings and exposed brick walls give structure, context and historic charm to the eight different living spaces. Painted steel trusses framing several units ceilings add to the soft industrial loft interiors.
