Millbrook Estate - Millbrook, NY
The matriarch of one of America’s oldest families continues to be a strong advocate for open land preservation and the tradition of the rural character and lifestyle of the Hudson Valley Region. As a trustee in this tradition, her holdings in the area include operating a large working farm with organic grain under production, and the family estate.
The main house of the estate is a prime example of neoclassical architecture; a Greek Revival of the mid 19th century fashion for a return to the discipline of classical proportions, with a large double-height central salon flanked with symmetrical wings and extensive loggias. Unfortunately, over the years, poorly executed restorations and additions had created numerous problems at the house.
Due to our extensive knowledge of classical architecture, and proper detailing techniques based on current building science, Sloan Architects was retained to assess and evaluate the extent of the damage, and propose architecturally appropriate solutions with advanced thermal efficiency, proper air ventilation, and moisture control techniques, as well as manage the historic restoration of the project.
